The useful takeawayEvery number needs a date, source and method. OCHA’s report is a snapshot of reported humanitarian conditions, not a live battlefield feed.

Start with the reporting period

OCHA’s Humanitarian Situation Report dated 15 October was published on 19 October 2026. Its Gaza reporting period is 29 September through 12 October unless the report says otherwise. That timestamp matters: it is a dated situation report, not a live map or a current minute-by-minute feed.

The report says approximately 950,000 displaced people were assessed as living in sites at medium to high risk of flooding, including more than 400,000 at high risk. It separately says available supplies could partially assist only 18 percent of the 294,250 families requiring shelter assistance for the rainy season.

Do not merge numbers with different sources

The report attributes 57 Palestinians reported killed and 319 injured during 29 September–12 October to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, which OCHA describes as operating under the de facto authorities. OCHA also reports that the UN Human Rights Office had verified 1,076 conflict-related deaths from the ceasefire announcement on 10 October 2025 through the end of July 2026, including 331 near the “Yellow Line.”

Those figures have different dates, definitions and methods. The short reporting-period numbers are attributed reports; the longer period is a UN Human Rights Office verification. Adding them together, or describing both as the same kind of count, would mislead readers.

What this report can and cannot establish

This release gives a dated humanitarian picture: displacement and flood exposure, shelter-assistance coverage, meal production and service shortages. It does not provide a continuously updated tactical map. This article therefore uses no troop positions or fine-grained operational coordinates.

The best next step is to open the linked report, note its date and source labels, and compare later OCHA updates for the same indicator. A change between reports may reflect new events, revised estimates or different reporting windows. We will keep those distinctions visible instead of turning uncertainty into a rumor.

Scope and limits

Conflict-related information can change and may be contested. We attribute reported figures to the named source and preserve the report’s time window. This page is not live operational intelligence.
